What is Oriental Medicine?

Oriental medicine has been practiced for more than 2,500 years and includes acupuncture, herbal medicine, moxibustion, Oriental massage and Oriental nutrition. Oriental Medicine emphasizes a holistic approach that treats the whole person. Many people have found Traditional Oriental methods of healing to be excellent tools for maintaining optimum health and preventing illness.

What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the systematic use of very fine needles as a therapeutic device to stimulate points on people's bodies, with the goal of helping them feel better.

How does it work?
Acupuncture is based on a subtle energy system that connects throughout the entire body. This energy known as “Qi” flows through distinct meridians or pathways. Disease manifest when there is blockage of energy within this meridian of the body. Using designated points a practitioner can stimulate these meridian ensuring an even flow of Qi and balance within the body.

What does it feel like/does it hurt?
Most people do not feel the insertion of the needle, if they do it is a tiny prick. The once the needle is inserted one may feel a warm or aching sensation around the point or along the course of the channel. The sensations of acupuncture vary widely among individuals.

Needling Techniques
In my practice, I use Japanese acupuncture techniques that utilize very fine needles with gentle, painless insertion techniques. Acupuncture points are selected using energetic principles of Yin, Yang and the Five Elements as manifested in the pulse and the abdomen.
